Danner boots have come a long way since their small beginnings and are now a subsidiary of Lacrosse Footwear which are partnered with the Japanese company ABC-Mart. Danner continues to supply the U.S Military and law enforcement with footwear to this day, and that definitely tells something about the quality and sturdiness of these boots.
And you know what they say slow and steady wins the race. So, Danner and five of his employees worked their way up to becoming a recognizable brand, first amongst workers, as they were some of the best work boots made in the USA, and later amongst other people who were looking for a pair of reliable footwear.
The original design was made to be sturdy and durable, and with the introduction of the legendary Danner 6490 they changed the history of hiking boots in both design, feel and comfort as they were extremely lightweight (something that was quite a rarity back in the 1970s) making them a must-have for people who enjoyed the great American outdoors.

Portland-headquartered Danner Boots employs 180 members of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 555 who make and sell work, outdoor, and military boots. The Danner brand is currently owned by LaCrosse Footwear Inc., a publicly-traded company that bought Danner in 1994. LaCrosse relocated to Portland in 2001.
During a recent tour of the plant, company officials told the Northwest Press that Japanese citizens love Danner Boots and that Japan has been a big customer for more than 20 years. They said the recent Korea Free Trade Agreement also has opened up a new market for its boots.
I just bought some Danner Pronghorn boots thinking they were made in the USA. I was disappointed to be misrepresented. My wife just told me the fully sole stitched boots are made in USA. All the others only 1/3 of the boot is made in the USA. So disappointed. If you advertise made in the USA be true to your ads.
Officials said LaCrosse Footwear and its Danner factory would continue operations in Portland, where the company employs about 300 of its 400 workers. LaCrosse was founded in Wisconsin in 1897, purchasing Portland-based Danner Boots (founded in 1932) in 1994 and moving the combined company there in 2001.
Reminiscent of the Danner Light, the Danner Field is a retro hiker boot from the Portland brand that is currently only available in Japan. Constructed from full-grain leather and sturdy nylon, the Danner Field is fitted with a robust Vibram Kletterlift outsole that is fully replaceable. The Danner Dekum is a handsome 7-hole service boot with a leather midsole and Vibram rubber outsole. With the model already exclusive to the Japanese market, this special edition is made up in Horween Cordovan Leather, a hide that demands a meticulous 6-month tanning process to achieve a lustrous, glossy sheen that fades beautifully with age and wear. I've deployed to Afghanistan twice and these boots are by far the best I've had. They fit perfect and stand up to everyday use. They keep my feet cool in the 120+ degree weather. Perfect in every way as far as I'm concerned for a hot weather ACU approved boot
I've been wearing the Danner Desert Rough Out Boots for over 2 years now. They are hands down the most comfortable military boots I've owned since I entered the Army in 2005. As long as they keep making these, I'll keep buying them. Really comfortable, lightweight, and looks great with the ACU. If you want the best boot on the market, you've found it.
i wore these going on three years and these have been through 2 middle east deployments. they stand up to punishment and worthy of the danner name. i was initially disappointed to find out they are made in china but nonetheless they have really improved my comfort standard. you can't really remove the \"suck\" factor in a lot of things but these boots make it about as good as its gonna get.
These boots are super light. They feel really solid and protect your feet and ankles really well. The heel is well padded. This is what I would expect for a $190 pair of boots. They don't run large or small. I ordered my Nike athletic shoe size and they fit perfect. Just don't go off of a different brand of boot because the sizing is specific to each brand.
These boots help me get through my Iraq deployment. Definitely 5 stars in the comfort and lightweight category. They are about as comfortable a boot as I've ever worn. They feel like my running shoes but tough enough to survive 10 mile rucks in 120 degree heat. They were on the expensive side but you get what you pay for. They did run 1/2 size large than my regular running shoe size.
Extremely light boot but made in China. I thought all of Danners boots were made here. The quality control is poor in my opinion because the fabric around the lace eyelets keep fraying so I have to keep trimming them. Really annoying. I ordered my regular shoe size and these were big so I was initially getting some hot spots on long rucks. I had to double up my socks which fixed it.I'll probably consider a different boot next time.
These boots were an excellent buy in my opinion. Durable and long wearing. I've had these for almost 2 years and they still look and feel great. The sole is almost flat and the laces are frayed but they are still wearable. I'm writing this review because I just picked up another pair of these. I'll expect the new pair to last me another 2 years.
I have to say I was surprised the first time I put these on. Huge upgrade in comfort over the Army issued garbage and my Converses after th
